This panel looks at how Europe receives Irish indie music as opposed to pop or traditional music from Ireland. Jim Carroll will discuss all relevant topics on Irish indie music outside their own country with two artist managers, a festival representative and an agent.
Moderator: Jim Carroll (The Irish Times, IR)
He writes about music and the music business for The Irish Times and compiles the On the Record blog for the newspaper. He also presents a weekly radio show on Dublin’s Phantom FM and hosts the Banter discussion panels. Previously, he worked in the music business in Ireland and GB in the areas of label management, A&R and press, as well as working as a journalist and editor for numerous publications in Ireland and abroad.
Ken Allen (Faction Records, Manager James Vincent McMorrow, IE)
Founder of Faction Records. He has held numerous positions within the music industry including A&R positions at Atlantic and Universal Records. He started Faction Records in 2006 and opened up a management division in 2008. Current clients include 'James Vincent McMorrow'. He also books Sea Sessions Festival based in Donegal - Ireland.
Bernadette Barrett (IHT Records, Lisa Hannigan Manager, IE)
Barrett runs the management company for David Gray, Damien Rice, Orbital, Pixie Carnation and record label and management for Lisa Hannigan, John Smith, Ruairri Joseph.
Detlef Schwarte (General Manager Reeperbahn Festival – Campus, DE)
Partner and managing director of Inferno Events GmbH & Co. KG, a Hamburg event agency. He is also general manager of the Reeperbahn Festival, which is Germany's biggest club festival. Current work focus is the realization of the Reeperbahn Campus, the new business platform for music and creative industry in Northern Europe, to be held parallel to the Reeperbahn Festival.
Steve Zapp (ITB, GB)
He is an agent for International Talent Booking, representing various acts.
